Using the snapshot feature in Toad Edge

Hello, folks. My name is Robert Pound and I am a product technologist for Quest. In this video, we will talk about snapshots in Toad Edge, as well as using the comparison tool. For details on the Toad Edge compare tool itself, check out the schema compare video for details about the toolbar, how to generate script, etc. So I have-- connection to the database is established. Very simply, if I wanted to create a snapshot for a database, I could right click on that database and choose take a snapshot. It gives me the ability to name the snapshot, and I can name it whatever I so choose, demo, 1, 2, 3. And click OK. And now I have created a snapshot for that database. So all the information on the schema is now created so that I can track the changes for this particular database. If I want to compare this snapshot with the active database, I first have to select an active database. So by right clicking and choose, set active database, I can change the focus to this database. So now when I right click, I can compare with active database. It won't do any good here, because I just created that snapshot, but for instance, if I look at some of the other snapshots I've created, I can choose the active database to be this one. And now when I look at snapshots that I've taken in the past, I can right click on them and choose, compare with active database, and it will open up a compare tab with the current snapshot that I have, versus the active database. So from here, we can see that, in this case, I dropped several tables for the purposes of this demo. So if I wanted to update the schema to reflect the snapshot, I could come to the change script and run it directly from here, or I could generate the export script for the target itself, as we've seen in previous videos, then run this and it will update the database. If I want to compare two snapshots together, I can come back down to the snapshots window and either shift, select or control, select multiple snapshots, and then right click and compare to each other. So this will compare one snapshot, versus another. So if I wanted to, for instance, modify one snapshot or another or just see what has changed in the past, I get a sense of that by looking at this tab here.
